Appointments System

You can make an appointment by telephoning the surgery or by calling in at the reception desk between the hours of 08:00 and 18:30 Monday to Friday.

Our receptionists will ask for a brief description of your problem. This is so they can make sure you see the most appropriate clinical team member.  This could be a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse or HCA. The reception team are bound by the same confidentiality laws as our medical practitioners. Please respect their role and provide them with the information they need to fulfil it.

We encourage you to stay with one particular doctor for the care of an on-going problem. However, it is not always be possible to see the doctor of your choice, especially if you wish to be seen urgently. For on the day issues you will be given an appointment with the allocated duty doctor. If your issue is an emergency, do not wait for a GP appointment. Always call 999 for a potential life-threatening energency.

One Appointment, One Problem

The majority of GP appointments are ten minutes in duration.  We kindly ask that you specify if you have a complex problem or problems that require more time.  We ask you to support us to deal with each medical problem safely and to the highest standard.

GP+ Appointments

Suffolk GP+ is for patients who urgently need a doctor's appointment and are unable to see their GP during normal GP hours.

Appointments can be made via reception during our normal opening hours.  Patients cannot refer themselves into this service.

The service is staffed by local Suffolk GP's and Nurse Practitioners in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill and is an NHS service delivered by the Suffolk GP Federation.  You will be given a booked appointment and will be seen by a suitable local GP or nurse who will have access to your medical records (once consent is given).

Glemsford Surgery has offered its building for further extended hours services for local patients. We are currently arranging IT infrastructure work to make this possible and hope to introduce this service prior to Christams 2022. Appointments at the surgery will be arranged through the same GP+ system as above.

Home Visits

If you are too ill to come to the surgery, a home visit can be arranged by telephoning the surgery.  Requests for visits should ideally be made before 10:00 if possible.

Please be prepared to supply the receptionist with the patient’s name, address, telephone number and brief details of the problem.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Chaperone Policy

Patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure.  A healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations.  All staff are aware of and received appropriate information in relation to our chaperone policy.  All trained chaperones understand their role and responsibilities and are competent to perform that role. If you feel you would like a chaperone present at your consultation please inform your Doctor or Nurse who will be happy to arrange this for you or you can ask a receptionist confidentially before your consultation.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment. This will allow us to offer the appointment to another patient. If you consistenly fail to attend appointments you risk removal from the surgery list.

Text Reminder Service

We have a text messaging service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To benefit from this service you will need to provide consent for text messages. If you are a new patient this can be done via your new patient questionnaire. If you are an existing patient who does not receive this service but would like to, please complete the online form on this page.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
